Internship and work experiences are invaluable steps into the fast-paced technical world of today. It offers students a chance to test-drive their careers before ever even graduating from school, and it boosts their skill set and resumé to give them the edge they will need when hiring time comes.

The AbilITy Connection Placement Committee offers students a connection to the professional world they might not otherwise have. It is often said, "It's not what you know, but who you know." The AbilITy Connection believes it's both what you know and who you know. An internship or work experience in the field of Information Technology through the AbilITy Connection provides students with both.

How the Process Works

The AbilITy Connection attempts to find an internship or work experience for every individual who requests one.

The process generally works as follows:

  • First, the student is accepted into the AbilITy Connection program. The student may be just starting school or nearly ready to graduate.
  • Second, a mentor is assigned to work with the student.
  • Third, the student may request an internship or work experience.

When a student requests an internship or work experience, Peggy Dooley submits basic information about the student (available hours, field of interest, etc.) to the placement committee and circulates their resume with the Business Advisory Council (BAC).

The placement committee and BAC provides leads through the Coordinator to the student, but the student must still apply for the internship with the company and go through the normal interviewing process.
